304 Stainless Steel - The Most Commonly Used Steel

304 stainless Steel is the most commonly use austenite steel. 304 SS usually contains 18% chromium, 8% nickel. 304 stainless steel has a very good resistance to a wide range of environments.   304 stainless steel is one of the most widely used steel. It is also know as 18/8 Stainless Steel or A2 Stainless Steel. European Norm  1.4301 (EN 1.4301). 304 is the AISI designation for this material. S30400 is UNS number. The British standard designation is 304S15 and the AFNOR designation is  Z7Cn18-09.  The composition of 304 stainless steel is provided in the below alloy composition chart.

AISI 304 Stainless Steel (1.4301, S30400) Chemical Composition:

    Iron (Fe) 6.5 to 74.5%
    Chromium (Cr) 18 to 20%
    Nickel (Ni) 8.0 to 10.5%
    Manganese (Mn) 0 to 2.0%
    Silicon (Si) 0 to 1.0%
    Nitrogen (N) 0 to 0.1%
    Carbon (C) 0 to 0.080%
    Phosphorus (P) 0 to 0.045%
